Counselling Agreement For Children and Young People Remote Working
Please read carefully and ask any questions you may have before signing.
This agreement explains how counselling works between you (the young person) and me, Catherine, your counsellor. It’s important that you and your parent or carer understand what to expect.
I am a qualified counsellor with an Enhanced DBS check, full insurance, and I’m an accredited member of the NCPS (National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society). I'm here to listen, support you, and work with you safely and respectfully.

How I Work
I use different types of counselling approaches, mostly based in person-centred therapy. This means I’ll tailor how we work to best support you and your individual needs.
Session Information
Length: 45 minutes
Platform: Microsoft Teams
How often: Usually once a week (we can talk about what suits you)
Where: In person or online – we’ll decide together
Cost: £60 per session
Payment: We’ll discuss this in your first chat
Cancellations: Please give at least 24 hours’ notice. Late cancellations may still be charged.
Confidentiality (What We Talk About)
What you say in counselling is private. But sometimes I may need to share something if:
You or someone else is in danger or at serious risk of harm
A child or vulnerable adult is being hurt or is unsafe
I’m required by law (e.g. court order, or serious crimes)
I also talk to a professional supervisor about my work, but I never use your name or anything that could identify you.
For young people, I won’t usually share details with your parent or carer unless I believe there’s a safeguarding concern. If I do need to share something, I’ll try to talk to you about it first.
Notes and Record Keeping
I write brief notes after sessions to help me remember what we talk about.
These are kept safely, with no full names, in line with GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
You (or your parent/carer) can ask to see your records by making a written request.
Our sessions will not be recorded and I ask the same from you.
Safeguarding
I have a duty to help keep children and young people safe.
If I’m worried about your safety, I may need to speak to people like Children’s Services. I will always try to let you (and your parent or carer) know first, unless doing so would put someone in danger.
Finishing Counselling
You can choose to stop counselling at any time.
It’s best if we talk about it in advance so we can end in a positive, supported way.
I may also stop sessions if it’s no longer helpful for you, or if I feel another service would be more suitable.
Online or Phone Sessions
If we meet online or by phone:
We’ll use a secure platform Microsoft Teams
Try to find a quiet, private space where you feel safe to talk
If something goes wrong with the tech, we’ll find a fair solution
You (and your parent/carer) will also be asked to complete an online consent form
I will ask you not to record the sessions and neither will I
Telephone sessions will only be done on approved numbers
Emergencies
I’m not an emergency service. If you're ever in crisis or need urgent help, you can contact:
NHS 111 or your GP
999 for emergencies
Samaritans: 116 123
Childline: 0800 1111 (free, confidential support for under 19s)
If You’re Unhappy
If you’re not happy with counselling:
Please talk to me so we can try to fix things
If it still feels unresolved, you (or your parent/carer) can contact my professional body, NCPS
